WOOSH WIRELESS TO LAUNCH IN CHRISTCHURCH
August 2, 2004
Wellington, NZPA - Woosh Wireless is to launch its high speed Internet broadband
service in Christchurch on Thursday.
Woosh chief executive Bob Smith said Woosh has commissioned three sites in the
central Christchurch area, with a fourth due to go live later this month.
Initially the service will be available to around 8000 customers around
Christchurch's central business district.
We see Christchurch as a vital link for our business users to enable them to
fully benefit from the portability of our service both within Christchurch and
as they move between the main city centres,'' Mr Smith said.
Woosh is aiming for nationwide broadband coverage and currently offers services
in Auckland, Wellington and Southland.
Last year the Auckland-based company won tenders to roll out broadband services
to schools in Northland, Wairarapa, Canterbury and Southland, under the
Government's Project Probe. But Woosh has only signed a contract with Southland,
saying it could not meet the deadline of the end of the year for the other
regions.
