Opnext Named Number One Private Company by Heavy Reading

May 25, 2004
(Business Wire)

Opnext, Inc., a global leader in high-performance optical components, today announced that it was named the number one private company in the optical transceiver and laser/detector product categories by Heavy Reading(TM). Heavy Reading's report entitled "2004 Optical Components Market Perception Report," surveyed more than 300 purchasers of optical components - including the world's leading systems vendors. Seventeen public companies and twenty-two private companies were included in this report.

"One of the main objectives of our study was to find out which makers of optical components are perceived as having the strongest and broadest product portfolios," said Dennis Mendyk, managing director of Heavy Reading. "Based on the responses we received from component buyers, it's clear that Opnext and its products are well regarded by many prospective customers."

With this objective, the Heavy Reading report surveyed only the components manufacturers with the broadest range in their optical components portfolio. Only vendors with six or more different types of optical components were included in the report. Visit Heavy Reading to view the executive summary.

"To be recognized as the top private optical component supplier in both the optical transceiver and laser/detector category is a significant industry validation," said Mike Chan, executive vice president of product marketing and business development for Opnext. "Despite the changing landscape of our industry, Opnext has continued to expand its product offerings, while continuing to place resources and investments toward future technologies."
