Comcast Partners With Oxygen for $25,000 Build Your Own Business Giveaway;
Three Grand Prizewinners Will Each Receive $25,000 and One-on-One Mentoring In New York City
February 24, 2004 Comcast announced today it is partnering with Oxygen to promote the fourth annual Build Your Own Business campaign, "oh! Get The Money." Oxygen will present three grand prizewinners with $25,000 to put towards their business initiative as well as a trip to New York City to attend a tailor-made small business workshop given by Rosalind Resnick, a top small business expert. Oxygen's Build Your Own Business campaign will begin Monday, March 1 and extend through Wednesday, March 31st. Individuals in the Dallas metroplex may enter on-line at oxygen.com or send the entry to oh! Get The Money Contest Headquarters, c/o The Gem Group, Inc. 373 Park Avenue South, 5th Floor, New York New York 10016. Three grand prizewinners will be chosen. "Small business owners and self-employed women name lack of access to funding as the greatest difficulty in getting started and this program provides them with the means to build the foundation for future business success." To celebrate the "oh! Get The Money" giveaway, Comcast will host three events locally offering aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn about starting a business and tips to make their small business stronger from acclaimed business coach Elaine Parrish of EP Coaching and Consulting. Those attending the events can enter to win $500 to start their own business. The first event will be in Dallas, at the Center for Community Cooperation with the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3rd. The next "oh! Get The Money" event in Dallas will be at the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 4th. Comcast will also host an event in Irving with the Greater Irving/Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17th. All three events are open to the public. Past winners of the "oh! Get The Money" giveaway include Michele Marcombe of Atlanta, Georgia, who created Michele Marcombe Inc., wearable designs for handbags and bikini swimsuits from authentic concert T-shirts; Jane Dobbs of Phoenix, Arizona, who created Gardens 4 Kids, theme-related garden kits that allow children to experience the wonders of creating their own gardens; Jennifer Hyatt of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, who created Legacy Quilts, personalized memory quilts that utilize customers' own fabrics and mementos; and Ana Frederick of Honolulu, Hawaii, who created Green Skins Tapa Designs, manufacturing unique furniture made from "tapa," a Polynesian/Hawaiian fabric produced from hand-pounded mulberry bark. » back to all media coverage articles
