First Original Comedy Series Comes to Oxygen
January 22, 2004 "My Best Friend is a Big Fat Slut" is slated to premiere this April as the first original scripted series of cable's Oxygen network, Daily Variety reports. The show, made in partnership with Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, will be a half-hour comedy by "Less Than Perfect" writer Claudia Lonow about a couple of Minnesota 20-somethings who move to Los Angeles in search of the Hollywood life. The series represents CWM's first move into cable. The producers own a stake in Oxygen Media with co-founders Geraldine Laybourne, the network's chairman and CEO, and Oprah Winfrey. "We like to think of this series as 'Friends' uncensored," said CWM's Caryn Mandabach. "This show builds on the network's sense of humor seen in shows like 'Girls Behaving Badly' and 'Ab-Fab,'" said Debby Beece, president of programming for the network. The show stars Bree Turner ("Bring It On Again"), Joy Gohring
("Not Another Teen Movie"), Kevin Christy ("Love Don't
Cost a Thing"), Brent King ("Without a Trace") and Nicole
Hiltz ("Cold Case").
