Naylor Appoints Alex DeBarr as its new President and CEO
GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA, May 31, 2006 - Naylor, LLC - the leading provider of
business-to-business media solutions for trade and professional associations in
North America has announced the appointment of Alex DeBarr as President and
Chief Executive Officer.
In a related announcement, Michael Moss, Naylor's President and CEO since
taking over for founder Brent Naylor in 2000, has been named Vice Chairman
reporting to DeBarr, focusing on new business development and strategic growth
initiatives.
"All of us on Naylor's Board of Directors feel strongly that Alex's depth and
breadth of business-to business media experience, high energy and strong
leadership skills make him ideally suited to lead Naylor to the next level in
new revenue and product development," said Jim Friedlich, Chairman of the Board
for Naylor, LLC and a partner at New York-based ZelnickMedia. "Alex shares our
sharp focus on the key values of integrity, teamwork, customer service and the
pursuit of excellence in all that we do."
Naylor was sold by founder Brent Naylor and Michael Moss in August, 2005 to
Clarity Partners, the Los Angeles-based private equity firm focused on media and
telecommunications investments, and ZelnickMedia, which owns or manages several
media and entertainment-related companies.
DeBarr, 46, comes to Naylor following twenty-one years at Advanstar
Communications, where he served in an array of roles, most recently as an
Executive Vice President overseeing a wide variety of market groups since 1997.
DeBarr earned a degree in Journalism from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School
of Journalism in 1984 and immediately joined Advanstar predecessor company
Harcourt Brace Jovanovich as an assistant editor. Within a year he moved into ad
sales, then into a variety of sales management, publisher and group publisher
roles, before being named a group vice president in 1996 and executive vice
president in 1997.
DeBarr's responsibilities at Advanstar included managing an extensive
portfolio in nearly all markets served by the company, and a broad array of work
on magazines, events, and online products in industries including healthcare,
travel, hospitality, beauty, automotive, home entertainment, dental, veterinary,
pharmaceuticals, licensing and powersports. He was actively involved in several
major acquisitions and joint ventures, including Advanstar's acquisition of
Thomson/Medical Economics, Travel Agent magazine and the Cahners Automotive
Group, as well as the launch of several publications, conferences, shows and
online products.
"Michael Moss, Brent Naylor and the Naylor management team have built a great
company that provides high-quality products and services to its advertisers and
association customers," said DeBarr. "Naylor is a very well-run company, and
this will enable me to focus on several great growth opportunities for this
business. I am also very pleased that Michael Moss has agreed to stay on as Vice
Chairman to help us take the business forward."
DeBarr joined Naylor on May 15. He will work primarily from Naylor's
Gainesville, Florida office.
